As of May 1, 2019, the stiftung ear, which is responsible for registration in Germany, includes so-called "passive" electrical and electronic equipment, which merely conducts currents, within the scope of application of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). These devices include ready-made extension cables, flush-mounted light switches, sockets, busbars, fuses, plugs, adapters and antennas.
This could be a particular challenge for manufacturers who are currently registered purely as B2B. This is because passive devices (e.g. cables, fuses) are often also included as accessories in the packaging of the main device. These passive devices must then be regarded as separate devices which are not automatically covered by the registration of the main device.
A distinction must be made between passive devices and components such as cables by the metre, wire end ferrules or cable ring lugs as well as plugs or sockets which are not intended for mounting, installation or fixed mounting (e.g. on the wall). These components are still not subject to registration.
