New version of the EMC standard for short range devices: ETSI EN 301 489-3 V2.1.2

With significant changes

The EMC standard for short range devices in the frequency range of 9 kHz and 246 GHz - ETSI EN 301 489-3 V2.1.2 (2021-03) (Draft) - has been published for voting by ETSI. It will replace ETSI EN 301 489-3 V2.1.1 (2019-03).

The increase in version number initially suggests minor changes. In fact, the changes are significant. Some new details have been specified for the receiver tests and the standard has been significantly restructured.

Formally particularly important: These changes are intended to cause the standard to be listed in the Official Journal of the EU for the Radio Equipment Directive (RED). The final version is to be published as V2.2.1 at the beginning of 2022.

A lot of attention is required from manufacturers. It has to be carefully considered whether new tests have to be performed with existing products in the future and when to start applying this draft to new products.
