From July 1, 2022, the extended registration requirement in the LUCID packaging register will apply to all packaging in Germany. § 9 (1) S. 1 of the Packaging Act (VerpackG) will be amended as follows on this date: Manufacturers of packaging filled with goods are obliged to register with the central body before placing the packaging on the market. This is a quasi ban on the sale of packaged goods if the manufacturer has not complied with this obligation.
Until now, the registration obligation only applied to packaging with a so-called system participation obligation. In simple terms, this is packaging that typically accumulates as waste at private end consumers. From July 1, 2022, packaging that is not subject to mandatory system participation will also be subject to registration. Anyone who places packaging on the market pursuant to § 15 (1) of the German Packaging Act (VerpackG), such as sales packaging and secondary packaging that does not typically arise as waste at private end consumers after use, transport packaging, reusable packaging, etc., will then also be subject to registration.
The registration process started on May 5, 2022.
