Eurasian Economic Union: RoHS requirements mandatory as of 01 March 2020

Confirmation of conformity required

Electrotechnical products to be placed on the market in the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan) must comply with the EAWU TR 037/2016 Technical Regulation on the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrotechnical and Radioelectronic Products as of 01 March 2020.

In principle, the technical requirements are largely harmonised with the European RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. The EAWU TR 037/2016 limits the content of the same six substances. The cadmium concentration must not exceed 0.01 percent by weight in homogeneous materials, for the other five substances the limit is 0.1 percent by weight. The decisive difference between the EU and the EAWU lies in the proof of conformity. While in the European Union a declaration of conformity by the manufacturer is sufficient, the EAWU requires a confirmation of conformity. For this purpose, a RoHS test report from a test laboratory must be used as a basis. The confirmation of conformity must be enclosed with the customs declaration.

The following devices fall under the scope of EAWU TR 037/2016:

  • Lighting and office equipment
  • Fire and safety detectors
  • Electric musical instruments
  • Power tools
  • Gambling and vending machines
  • Domestic appliances
  • IT equipment
  • Cable products
  • Products manufactured and imported in significant quantities
  • Cash registers
  • Protective cutouts
  • Sports and leisure equipment
  • Telecommunications equipment
