REACH Annex XVII Entry 79

New restriction PFHxA

Annex XVII of REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 lists the substances and groups of substances for which there are restrictions under which the substances may be used or are prohibited.

On September 19, 2024, the Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/2462 amending the REACH Regulation was published. The amendment will be included in the text of REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 in the next consolidated version. Until then, the text can be found in the Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/2462.

Entry 79 on undecafluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), its salts and PFHxA-related substances has been added to Annex XVII. The restriction mainly covers textiles, cosmetics, food contact materials, consumer products and fire-fighting foams.

PFHxA is a substance group of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds (PFAS). The general PFAS restriction proposal for the entire group and the restriction proposal for PFAS in fire-fighting foams are independent of this entry.

The (currently known) individual substances covered by entry 79 can be found on the ECHA website.

Note: if there is no CAS number on the ECHA page under "Group members", it is probably a subgroup that is linked. The individual substances of this subgroup can in turn be found on the subgroup page.
