CANADA: New ICES-003 EMC for ITE and digital devices was published

Very short transition time until October 15, 2021!

ISED Canada (Innovation, Science, and Economic Development) published a new version of the EMC standard Interference-Causing Equipment Standard ICES-003, issue 7, Information Technology Equipment (ITE) (including Digital Apparatus) on October 15, 2020.

The standard is in force since October 15, 2020. This new issue is a complete rework. The transition period ends on October 15, 2021 for all related products which continue to be manufactured, imported, distributed, leased, offered for sale, or sold in Canada.

Changes compared to the previous issue (Issue 6:2016 with Update 4-2019) in short:

  • title of the standard (shortend)
  • major formal rework
  • new requirements for devices with Wireless Power Transfer
  • new reference to CAN/CSA-CISPR32:17 instead of CAN/CSA-CISPR22-10
  • there is only one set of limit lines, independent if the measurement was done according CISPR or ANSI
  • and more…

What to do:
A remeasurement will normally not be necessary, but a rework (or amendment) of the EMC test report should be taken into consideration. The SDoC (Suppliers Declaration of Conformity) should be updated.

The best at the end:
The device label needs no change on the following marking: CAN ICES-003(A) / NMB-003(A) or CAN ICES-003(B) / NMB-003(B).
